The author had a pretty good grasp on how young teenage boys think and behave. He also gave very good descriptions of what it is like to have epilepsy. I agreed totally with his description of how it feels for a musician who gets right into the music they are creating... I get that way when I play my accordion or piano. The rhythm becomes a part of me and I become the instrument.
I was glad that father and son were able to get together.
I really enjoyed this book up until the end. It felt incomplete or unresolved to me at the end. Maybe there will be another book? I hope so.
Generally, I thought the writing was good and the characters interesting. Mica seemed a little too good to be true, but I suppose you can't expect every character to be believable. The main character and Dean seemed authentic. And Lars was a hoot.
I agree with you, DushoreLady, that Stein has a pretty good grasp on teenage boys, music, and epilepsy (though I can't say how accurate that was).

Good choice.
