I have not seen the movie and have to wonder how well it followed the book.

Talk about psychotic dysfunctional characters.. It is scary to think people like that could actually exist.

When Nick asked the police how she got hold of the knife when her hands were tied and the police shrugged it off why didn't anyone follow up on his question.

I got the impression that something had happened between Nick's father and Amy. Something riled him up more than just the fact he had dimentia. At least that was how I felt. That wasn't explored more.

Nick's reasoning about what would happen to his child if he was able to prove Amy's actions didn't take into account that if she was put into prison and had the baby it probably would not have been difficult for him to get custody of his child. He doomed himself to a life of looking over his shoulder and being on guard all the time 24/7. I would go crazy if I had to live like that knowing I was living with a psychotic killer.

This book was one of the most agitating books I have ever read.

I am trying to get a copy of Gone Girl, but with little success so far. My word, is this book popular. It is checked out of all of our local libraries- even the electronic copies!

I do plan on watching the movie, though if it is anywhere near as screwed up as the book it will probably give me nightmares. What a demented book! I agree with B that it is scary to think people like that could actually exist.

** Spoiler alert**
I find it amazing that she was not convicted of murder. As B pointed out, there were a lot of inconsistencies in her story. Could none of them lead to enough evidence to convict?

B, remember at one point Amy remembers whispering to his father to come live them, that she loved him? I think hearing that over and over might have been enough to rile him up. I do wish that relationship had been explored more.

To follow up on B's point about Nick's reasoning about the baby- and think what she might be doing to the child? If she is messing with his head that much, what would she do to a child? Think how screwed up that child would have to be.

And finally, I also agree that this book was agitating. I honestly do not understand how either of them could act they way they did. Unbelievable. I'm glad it isn't based on a true story.
