Happy Birthday!

Yesterday our little book club celebrated it's 2nd birthday. In the past year we've read 16 books together, and I am very much looking forward to the next 16!

"Native Son" by Richard Wright

This is on several "Best 100 Books/Novels" lists so I thought we should give it a try.

Other Books by Melissa

Angie complained my old one was too full and took too long to download on her phone, thus a new one.

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

Pat's first pick - looks interesting!

Characters Meeting Characters

If you could have a character(s) from one book meet a character(s) from another, who would you have meet up? In the first comment, I'll explain the impetus for this post.

Little Britches: Father and I Were Ranchers by Ralph Moody

Tracy's first pick - lightyears better than Moby Dick, I'm sure!

Welcome, Tracy and Pat!

I'm glad to say that we've added two new members to our little club.

After Fanny Hill, we'll pick: Tracy, Pat, Melissa, Joy, Angie

Tracy went to school with Melissa and I. If you'd like to comment and introduce yourself to Joy, that would be great! There's also a little "reading survey" that you could fill out here: http://amabookclub.blogspot.com/2009/03/survey-about-reading.html

Fanny Hill by John Cleland

Caught a snippet of this movie and it looked "intriguing" to say the least.

Let's make love, not war!

Labels + New Blog Title

I added a new feature to our little blog by labeling our posts. This makes it easy to view all of your own picks, all the "classic" literature, all the NPR junk, etc. with just a click! When you open a post on a new book you can apply an existing label by clicking "show all" by the Labels field on the bottom right of the text window. You can also create a new label if you'd like.

Ahh, technology!

"Rebel" by Bernard Cornwell

Another book found thanks to NPR. Cornwell was on "Fresh Air" talking about his latest book (from another series), but this book came up in the conversation and sounded interesting. It is pretty long, but I've only heard good things about it!

"Nectar in a Sieve" by Kamala Markandaya

Harold's had this on the shelf for a while and I've always thought it looked interesting. M says I like to pick depressing books, so here we go. =)

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde

Returning to an "oldie but goodie", at least, so I've heard.

"In the Skin of a Lion" by Michael Ondaatje

Another pick courtesy of NPR. Hope it's better than Shanghai Girls....

"The joyful will stoop with sorrow, and when you have gone to the earth I will let my hair grow long for your sake, I will wander through the wilderness in the skin of a lion.
The Epic of Gilgamesh"
