I liked the plot of this story - counterfitters (I cant spell that correctly) in need of technical assisance, then caught in a catch 22 of kill the engineer to cover up the first crime, or let him go free and get caught. However, I didn't like the way SACD told the story - almost entirely as a narrative of the client. I think it would have been better if we were given a bit more character development of the bad guys.
I guess I just feel like Holmes didn't do much in this story. True, he found the basic location of the house, but.... what else?
And then they get away?? No no, I like a little more closure in my life, thank you very much.
I guess in this way SACD mimics life. Sometimes there's just not much to do, and the villians get away.
This story disapointed me. There was not nearly enough info about the forgers. I think if you had more background info you would have a better idea of why they killed the other engineer. I did however like the part where he lost his finger. The guy with the axe must have been a very bad with his aim to only get his thumb. The girl in this story had real substance like the other which was disapointing. Holmes had really nothing to do in this story but listen. Must have been a writters block day for SACD.
I actually really liked the story. I thought it was action-packed with a quick, clean conclusion (with the exception that the bad guys got away, of course). Granted, Holmes did not have much to do, but then you were warned about that at the outset.
I also liked that the police found the missing thumb and were confused. Of course, maybe I liked the story because I had guessed that the criminals were located in town and were counterfeiters before the story said as much. It made me feel smart. :-)
