I LOVED THIS BOOK. I should have known, since Angie recommended it to me several years ago. She may even have sent me the book. Thanks, B, for reminding me of it.

At first I was uncertain, since I usually don't care for books based on letters (Daddy-Long-Legs being one of the exceptions). However, it really worked for this book. The letters were highly entertaining and yet told the story well also, without seeming forced. The characters were lovely, too. I was rooting for Dawsey since the first letter.

Even the sections that were about the occupation and prison camps were done in a way that was heartbreaking, yet not overwhelming (which was nice, since I am in the middle of reading all about the Holocast for my seminar).

I don't have anything negative to say. Good book.

I enjoyed this book, too. I got the book at the library sale in Dushore. The title intrigued me. I hadn't heard of the book before.

Markham Reynolds was too full of himself and believed he could have anything or anyone he wanted. I was glad when Juliet held her ground and finally saw what he really was and told him to leave. He probably had very little trouble shifting gears and moving on to his next conquest.

The few parts about the animals on the island were sad to read. I understand why the pets left behind were euthanized, but it still hurt to read it. And that bit about the soldier killing the cat and eating it.... ugh... Of course, I realized that would most likely have become the fate of those pets left behind, so humanely euthanizing them was in the long run the kinder thing to do.

I liked Dawsey from the beginning. Such a shy gentleman. Who wouldn't like him. I was very glad to read he won the day and Juliet's heart. Loved the ending.
