A quick read. Historical information was interesting. The last page asks "How Much of This is True?" Answer: All of it, except one thing. They are referring to the historical data, not the mystery/murder story line.
The mystery/murder story line was interesting enough to keep me reading. I enjoyed the verbal playfulness between Crighton and Carlson. In fact there was a certain amount of verbal playfulness between many of the characters.
No huge dramatic climax. Reminded me of the TV show Masterpiece Theatre.
The book was written in 1987 so I wonder if the books ever were found.
I really thought I was going to enjoy this book. The main characters were female, which is a good indication, and librarians, which is a good sign, and it dealt with political history. I didn't dislike it. I just had a hard time getting into it. One of my struggles was that I could not keep Carson and Crighton straight in my head.
The historical information was interesting, though I think they threw in a little too much unrelated historical information. It got a bit overwhelming after a while.
It appears this is one of several books about these characters? It referenced other mysteries they solved throughout and there seemed to be a familiarity with the characters when dealing with each other and a mystery.
So, as I said, I didn't dislike it, but I didn't like it as much as I initially thought I was going to.
