This had a surprise ending, didn't it! I wouldn't call it a fun or easy book to read, but it was an interesting look at Depression era Kansas and female friendships.
I thought it was well-written, though I can't say I much cared for Queenie or Rita. Queenie seemed a bit stupid and naive, while Rita was stubborn and annoying. Even at the end I couldn't bring myself to like them!
It has been awhile since I read the book so the names of the characters hve slipped my mind. The story started out so mild and like other quilt club stories. Then it started taking on a whole different feel. In the end it reminded me of the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes". Women do stand up for each other when needed. I enjoyed the book more than I expected I would.
