Very different book than I usually pick. Fast paced and interesting story line. The author did a good job of presenting the closeness of the brothers in their actions and verbal sparring. The description of the Disneyland employees and their behind the scenes work environment was very interesting. The author came up with some good surprises in the story especially near and at the end. I enjoyed the ending chapter a lot. I could easily see this story being made into a movie. I liked reading the tricks of the trade that Joey used to do her job. I am not sure what the underwater snorkeling bit had to do with the rest of the story. The only thing it did was help Oliver trust Gillian more, but it didn't fit in with the rest of the plot.... at least not to me.
This is also a very different book than what I usually pick. I have to admit, it took me a while to get into it. Oliver struck me as being indecisive and whiny at the beginning and I just couldn't get excited about a wire transfer. It was about 100 pages in (this was a long book!) that I finally got interested.
What I loved was the description of Disneyland since I was just there for the first time this summer (or, I was at Disney World, either way) and could totally understand that part. It makes me wish I had read the book before I went!
I could see this becoming a movie pretty quickly too. I had guessed the ending pretty early on (especially Gillian) but liked to see how the author developed it.
I agree about the snorkeling, also I thought that Charlie's heart condition didn't contribute a lot. There was one place where it played a role, but even then it seemed a little bit unrealistic.
If anything, I would say the plot had a little too much by the time it got to the end. Overall a good read and I am glad you recommended it.
Oh, by the way, what would you have done at the beginning about the $3 million? That is pretty tempting. I would like to say that I wouldn't steal it, but then, if my mother was struggling under a lot of debt...
I really liked the mother and her neighbor friend. They were both very feisty and inventive getting around the detectives. Not bad for a couple of little old ladies.
