Divergent by Veronica Roth

Hearing no dissent from my fellow members, I'll go ahead and post my pick.  It is a young adult novel and is very popular.

Okay, I have to admit that I read this book on the third morning of Spring Break. It is a fast and easy read. I found it well-written for a young adult novel, with an interesting plot.

I'll try not to give too much away, but I was left wondering what my aptitude test would tell me and what faction I would choose. I would like to think that my aptitude test would put me in Erudite, but I think I would choose Amity. Except that I didn't like any of their jobs. I'm not cut out for Dauntless or Abnegation, that is for sure. :-) Where would you go?

Good book. After reading it I went back to the library and got the next book in the series - Insurgent.

The basis of the book, dividing people into factions, reminds me of tests I have taken that supposedly help you to determine what type of personality you have. I have always found that I don't fit into only one type. So I guess in this book I would be considered Divergent. Personally I feel that all people have some of each of the personalities in them and trying to make someone conform to only one is unrealistic. Some traits are undoubtedly stronger than others, but thank goodness people do have some of the different traits in them that they can fall back on when needed.

Some scenes seemed too violent to consider this appropriate for young adult reading... but I guess I am old fashioned and these days what they read and see in the movies and play in video games are old hat to them now.

I was not sure why Tris kept the data hard-drive instead of destroying it until I started reading the next book. Even then, it didn't like a wise move.

I took an instant disliking to Marcus. Bad bad man. It was obvious to me that the author planned to use him for some no goodness in the next book. Led me right into getting the next book to find out.
