Differences Between Men and Women?

In "A Room of One's One" (1928), Virgina Woolf posits that men and women not only write about different subjects but write differently. She argues that women use more suggestion and inuendo in their writing, while men are more straightforward. Do you agree with this?

Totally!! Men don't get subtlety at all. It's not all their fault though, I think mainly evolution and influences of culture play into that.

I agree.
straightforward men = assertive
straightforward women = crass and aggressive

So, I'm wondering about those women that wrote under pen names.

Hollenbackgirl - I cannot believe that you would infer me to be crass and aggressive; assertive, maybe :)

Joy, Woolfe actually mentions women that right under male pen names. She said that typically they are more likely to write in a "male" style- more straightforward. They are also more likely to write about "male" topics- war, politics, etc. I can't remember any of the examples she used, though- sorry!
